YouTube Has Changed.

Video Summary

I haven’t been posting much because YouTube has become oversaturated with similar content and I’ve struggled to find original ideas that stand out, making it hard to compete with existing tutorials. I’ve realized that the platform has shifted toward fast-paced, highly edited content focused on quick information consumption, which doesn’t align with my preferred style of authentic, unedited videos where I can genuinely connect with viewers. With this video, I’m experimenting with a new approach of creating more authentic, longer-form content with minimal editing to offer better value and create a more meaningful connection with my audience.

YouTube Has Changed — And Here’s My Honest Thoughts

This is a bit of a different type of video and blog post to what you’re normally used to from me. You guys are usually used to my command tutorials with a whole bunch of editing, but I wanted to try something different — something more authentic. No heavy edits, just me talking and being real with you. I actually realised that some people really value that kind of connection, and that’s something I’ve noticed a lot recently with YouTube.

Why I Haven’t Been Posting

So I haven’t posted for around two months leading up to when this went up, and there’s a real reason for that — I’ve genuinely struggled to come up with ideas. I’d hop onto Minecraft, open up a new world, have what felt like an amazing idea for a video, and then all of a sudden I just wouldn’t know what to do with it. I’d spend hours just wandering around, which I actually find peaceful, but at the same time I’d feel like I was wasting time when I could be making content.

You’re probably thinking — Josh, you can make a whole bunch of command tutorials! And yes, I can, but the honest truth is there are just so many videos out there right now that it’s really hard to compete. I also don’t like copying. When I say copying, I mean taking a concept someone else has already covered and making my own version of it. It just doesn’t feel right to me, and on top of that, it’s genuinely hard to compete with a video that’s already performing well on a topic people already know about.

My Minecraft debug stick video is a great example. When I posted that, there wasn’t much competition, so it did really well. But over time, more and more people made their own versions, and now it’s so saturated that it’s hard to reach new people. And if someone already knows about the debug stick, there’s not much new value I can offer — so why would they watch?

How YouTube Has Changed

YouTube used to be a platform where you could genuinely share, talk, and connect with your viewers. Now it feels like it’s turned into a really fast consumption platform — you jump into a video to grab a bit of information or get entertained, and then you’re straight onto the next one. Videos are getting shorter, more heavily edited, and I honestly feel like that’s just not me.

I’ve noticed that my own editing style has changed completely since I first started the channel, and a lot of that has been driven by YouTube Shorts. So many of my videos now are edited to retain attention rather than to actually connect with people, and I don’t think that should be the goal. I’d much rather make a video where I’m genuinely talking through my experience with learning something — like working through commands — rather than just throwing information at you with fast music and no real connection to the person behind the screen.

What’s Next for the Channel

Honestly, I’m still figuring it out, and I appreciate your patience with me while I do. I definitely want to keep doing command tutorials — that’s not going anywhere. But I’m thinking about shifting toward making them more like this: unedited, relaxed, just me talking through the concepts. I genuinely think that kind of video is better in a lot of ways. When you’re not just having information thrown at you, you actually get time to process and understand things properly.

I’m also thinking about making more original content and possibly more Shorts, since that does seem to be a big part of how channels grow right now — even if they’re not really my personal favourite format. I prefer long-form content and being able to really get into a topic properly. But I’m open to experimenting and seeing what works.

If you enjoyed this kind of video — just me being real and talking things through — please leave a like and subscribe, it would mean a lot. I genuinely don’t know how this will perform, but I wanted to try it and be honest with you all. Thank you so much for watching and reading, and I can’t wait to see you in the next one.
