INCREASE YOUR FPS For Any Version Of Minecraft With Optifine and Fabric! (Updated 2022 Tutorial)

Video Summary
In this video I show how to boost your Minecraft FPS by comparing Vanilla, Optifine, and Fabric, and I found Fabric (with Sodium) gives the best performance, especially on servers. I walk you through installing Fabric from the official site, launching it once, then downloading Fabric API, Iris Shaders, and Sodium from CurseForge. After that, I explain how to open your .minecraft folder and drag the mod files into the mods folder. Once installed, you’ll have smoother gameplay, better video settings controls, and shaders support.

Hey everyone, it’s UnderMyCap. Today I’m going to show you how to turn Minecraft from this into this. It’s a really cool upgrade that makes Minecraft feel much smoother and can significantly improve performance.

Before making this, I tested multiple setups—Vanilla, OptiFine, and Fabric—to compare frame rates and overall performance. I ran a basic “breaking” test and found that both Fabric and OptiFine performed better than Vanilla, with noticeably higher FPS.

However, I also noticed a significant performance drop when playing on servers (like Hypixel) using Vanilla and OptiFine. Fabric, on the other hand, stays much more stable thanks to Sodium’s optimization.

If you’re on Bedrock Edition, I’m sorry—this guide is for Java Edition.

Basic Performance Tips (Before Installing Anything)

If you want quick FPS improvements, you can:

Turn off fancy graphics and lower your render distance to reduce strain on your computer and increase frame rate.

Why Fabric Is the Best Option Right Now

After testing everything, Fabric is the best option if you want the highest FPS on your computer. You can absolutely use OptiFine, but in this post I’m going to show you how to install and set up Fabric with Iris Shaders (plus Sodium for performance).

Step 1: Install Fabric

Fabric is simply another Minecraft installation you can add to the launcher (similar to how OptiFine works). Once installed, it appears as a selectable version in the Minecraft Launcher.

If you’re unsure about anything, ask a parent or trusted adult for help. Always use safe, official links.

Go to:

fabricmc.net

From there:

Click Download, then choose the download option for Windows. When the download prompt appears, click Save File.

After it downloads, open the installer. A small setup window will appear where you can choose:

The Minecraft version you want (choose the latest version if you’re following this later), and make sure the loader version is up to date.

Then click Install.

I’m not installing it again here because I already have it installed, but once it’s done, Fabric should show up in your Minecraft Launcher.

If Fabric Doesn’t Appear in the Launcher

Open the Minecraft Launcher and go to InstallationsNew Installation. Then scroll through the version list until you find the Fabric loader, select it, and click Create or Done.

Once Fabric is listed, click Play to launch the game at least once. This first launch is important before moving on to mods.

Step 2: Download the Required Mods

Next, you’ll need to install three mods:

Fabric API (from CurseForge)

Iris Shaders (from CurseForge)

Sodium (from CurseForge)

Download each one by clicking Download and saving the files. (These will usually download as .jar files.)

Step 3: Add the Mods to Minecraft

Now you’ll place the downloaded mods into your Minecraft mods folder.

On Windows:

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run window.

Type:

%appdata%\.minecraft\

Then press Enter. This opens your Minecraft folder.

Inside, you should see a folder called mods. If Fabric is installed correctly, you’ll also notice Fabric-related files or folders.

Open your Downloads folder, then drag and drop the three downloaded mod files into the mods folder.

Once the files are in the mods folder, launch Minecraft using the Fabric installation again.

Step 4: Confirm Everything Is Working (And Use Shaders)

After launching, Minecraft should now be optimized. You’ll notice changes in the video settings—Sodium gives you improved performance settings, and Iris allows shader pack support.

From here you can:

Install shader packs, adjust visual quality settings, and fine-tune performance to get the best FPS while still making the game look great.

That’s it. I hope this helped, and I tried to keep it as short and clear as possible. See you in the next one.
