How to INSTALL & PLAY Minecraft SNAPSHOTS Minecraft Tutorial
Video Summary
In this video, I show you how to install and play Minecraft Java Edition snapshots so you can access the newest update content. I demonstrate that you must create a new world, then enable the snapshot’s data pack (like the “bundles and update 1.20” pack) before generating the world. Once enabled, you’ll see the new items and features in-game. I also clarify that this method is for Java, while Bedrock uses Minecraft Preview on Windows 10/11.

Hey everybody, it’s Under My Cap, and welcome back to another video. Today, I’m going to show you how to use snapshots in Minecraft: Java Edition.
A lot of you have been commenting that you can’t access the new Minecraft update. That’s because you need to enable it using a data pack when creating a new world. In this post, I’ll walk you through how to do that.
Confirm You’re Running a Snapshot
First, make sure you’ve launched the latest snapshot version. I’m going to press Play just to confirm I’m actually in a snapshot.
Once the game opens, you’ll see it looks like normal Minecraft—at this point, the experimental features aren’t enabled yet.
Create a New World (You Can’t Use an Old One)
Next, click Create New World. Unfortunately, you can’t add these snapshot features to an existing world—you have to create a new one. That makes sense, because Mojang doesn’t want to risk damaging older worlds.
From here, you can name your world whatever you want. I’ll leave it as New World and set the game mode to Creative.
Enable the Update Using Data Packs
Now, click Data Packs.
In the list, you should see a data pack called Bundles and Update 1.20 (or similar, depending on the snapshot). This is what enables the new update content.
Click the little blue arrow to move it into the Selected column, then click Done.
Proceed and Generate the World
After that, click Proceed, then click Create New World.
Once you load in, open your inventory and you should see the new update items and features that have been showcased. (If you’re reading this in a future version, the features may vary depending on what Mojang has added.)
Quick Note for Bedrock Players
This method is for Java Edition only. Bedrock uses a different system—typically Minecraft Preview, which is available on Windows 10 and 11.
That’s it! Hopefully this clears up the confusion and helps you access the new snapshot features.
