Video Summary
In this video, I show you how to install data packs into your Minecraft Java world by accessing your world folder through the edit menu and placing the downloaded data pack file into the datapacks folder. Once you’ve added the data pack file, you simply reload the world using the /reload command and the data pack will be active and functioning. I demonstrate this process using a “Raining Chests” data pack as an example to show how it works in-game.

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back to another video! Today I’m going to be showing you how to install data packs into your Minecraft world. It’s really simple, and all you need to have is a world set up and a data pack ready to go! If you’d prefer to follow along visually, you can watch the full video here: How To Install Minecraft Data Packs Into Minecraft Java The first thing you want to do is make sure you have a Minecraft Java world already set up. In my case, I’m using a world I very creatively named “Best World.” Head to the main menu and locate your worlds — you’ll be able to see all of your existing saves listed there. Before you can install anything, you’ll need an actual data pack to work with! For this tutorial, I’m using a fun one called Raining Chests, which does exactly what it sounds like — it makes chests rain down from the sky. Once you’ve found the data pack you want to use, go ahead and download it to your computer. Head back to your Minecraft world selection screen, click on your world, and then hit the small Edit button in the corner. From there, simply click Open World Folder. This will open up your world’s directory, which contains a whole bunch of files and folders related to your world. Inside your world folder, you’ll find a folder called datapacks. Click into it — it may be empty if you haven’t installed any data packs before. Now, go to your downloads, grab the data pack file you downloaded earlier, and drag it into the datapacks folder. In my case, I dropped in the Raining Chests release file, and it showed up right away. Now go ahead and open your world. At first, things might look completely normal — don’t worry, that’s expected! To activate the data pack, simply open your chat and type the command /reload. This will reload all of the data packs in your world. After doing that, you should start seeing the effects straight away. In my case, chests started raining down all over the place — quite a lot of them actually, including some landing in the water — but the data pack was absolutely working! And that’s basically how you install a data pack into your Minecraft Java world! It’s a really straightforward process once you know where to look.
