How To Get & Use The Debug Stick In Minecraft!

What Is The Debug Stick?

The Debug Stick is a really handy tool that allows you to select and change the block state attributes of specific blocks. For example, when used on stairs, you can left-click to cycle through the available attributes of that block, and then right-click to change the state of the selected attribute. This means you can do things like change the direction a stair is facing, or modify other block-specific properties with ease!

How To Get The Debug Stick In Java Edition

Getting the Debug Stick in Java Edition is nice and simple — all you need to do is use a command. Open your chat or command console and type the following command:

/give @s debug_stick

Once you hit enter, the Debug Stick will be added straight to your inventory. From there, you can left-click on a block to cycle through its available attributes, and right-click to change the value of the currently selected attribute. It’s a fantastic tool for building and experimenting with different block states!

What About Bedrock Edition?

Unfortunately, the Debug Stick is not available in Bedrock Edition. If you try running the same command in Bedrock, you’ll find that the item simply does not exist in the game. The reason for this comes down to how each version of Minecraft is built — the Debug Stick was specifically designed as a Java Edition debugging tool. Bedrock Edition is coded in a completely different programming language and has its own separate debugging tools and software, which means the Debug Stick never made its way over. It really would have been such a useful addition to Bedrock Edition, and it’s a shame that it’s not available there.

Summary

To quickly recap — if you’re on Java Edition, simply use the command /give @s debug_stick to get your Debug Stick and start experimenting with block states. If you’re on Bedrock Edition, unfortunately this tool isn’t available due to the differences in how each version is developed. Hopefully in the future we might see something similar come to Bedrock, but for now it remains a Java exclusive feature.
