How To Get and Use Structure Void Blocks In Minecraft Java And Bedrock!

Video Summary
In this video I show you how to get Structure Void blocks in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock, and what they do. I explain that they act like air so you can walk and push mobs right through them, and I demonstrate how they can be used to keep water in place for clean decorations. I also show how the block looks different on Bedrock, where it’s visibly marked like a barrier. To get it on either version, use the command: /give @s structure_void.

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back. Today I’m going to show you how to get Structure Voids in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition. Yes—this works in both versions.

What Is a Structure Void?

A Structure Void is a block commonly used with Structure Blocks, especially when working with “air” space in saved structures. In normal gameplay, it behaves like air—meaning it looks like nothing and you can walk straight through it with no issue.

For example, if you spawn a mob (like a pig), you can push it through the Structure Void as well. It doesn’t act like a solid block; it functions like an air block.

A Useful Feature: Controlling Water

One of the coolest uses of the Structure Void is that it can help control water spread in certain setups.

Normally, if you place water, it flows outward and spreads. However, if water is surrounded on all sides by Structure Voids, the water will stay stationary instead of flowing everywhere. This can be really useful for controlled water decoration or tight builds where you want water to remain contained and not spill out.

How Structure Voids Look in Bedrock Edition

On Bedrock Edition, the Structure Void looks different than it does on Java. In Bedrock, it’s visually marked so you can actually see where the block is placed, which makes it feel a bit like a Barrier Block in terms of visibility. If you remove it and place it again, you’ll notice that same visible indicator.

The Command to Get a Structure Void (Java + Bedrock)

You can get the Structure Void using a command in both Java and Bedrock. Use:

/give @s structure_void

This gives the Structure Void directly to you.

Final Notes

Beyond being used with Structure Blocks and the water behavior shown earlier, there aren’t many other common uses for Structure Voids in normal gameplay.

If you’re interested in how Structure Voids are used with Structure Blocks specifically, I also have a separate video on that topic.

Thanks so much for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one—so close to 7K!
