How to GET and USE Barrier Blocks in Minecraft Java/Bedrock

Video Summary
In this video, I show you how to get and use Barrier Blocks in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock. Barrier blocks are invisible, unbreakable in survival, and only show a small outline/particles so you know they’re there, making them perfect for blocking off areas or controlling player movement. To get one, just use the simple command: /give @s barrier. I also show an example of how I used barrier blocks to create floating/hanging sign builds.

Formatted Transcript

In my last video, I showed you how to get every single armor trim in Minecraft. In this one, I’m going to show you how to get a barrier block.

What Is a Barrier Block?

Can you spot it? Probably not—barrier blocks are intentionally hidden.

This block is a barrier block. It lets you block players from entering certain areas, or simply stop them from moving through a space.

The block itself is invisible, but when you place it, you’ll see particles that indicate the block is there. If you switch to Survival mode, you’ll notice you can’t break it, and you can’t walk through it. Players will see a small outline indicator when targeting it, but it still functions like an invisible wall.

How to Get a Barrier Block (Java & Bedrock)

The command is the same for both Bedrock and Java Edition. Just type:

/give @s barrier

That’s it.

How Barrier Blocks Can Be Useful

In my previous video, I used barrier blocks to make hanging signs possible in certain builds. They’re incredibly useful because they function like a normal block for placement and support, even though they’re invisible.

For example, you can create the effect of signs “floating” or hanging in midair. Just keep in mind: if you break the barrier block supporting something, the supported block (like a sign) can break as well. You’ll still see the particles when it’s broken, but the structure relying on it won’t stay in place.
