How To Install Minecraft Data Packs Into Minecraft Java

Video Summary
In this video, I show you how to install a data pack into your Minecraft Java world. After downloading a data pack, you just open your world folder from the Edit menu, go into the datapacks folder, and drop the pack file in. Then load the world and run /reload to activate it, and I demonstrate it working with the “Raining Chests” pack. I wrap up by asking you to like, subscribe, and check out the pack I used.

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back to another video. Today I’m going to show you how to install data packs into your Minecraft Java world. It’s really simple—first, you just need to have a world set up.

Step 1: Make Sure You Have a World

From the main menu, go to your list of worlds. Make sure you already have a world created. In my case, I’m using a world called “Best World.”

Step 2: Download a Data Pack

Next, you’ll need a data pack to install. For this example, I’m going to use one called “Raining Chests.” Download the data pack so you have the file ready to add to your world.

Step 3: Open Your World Folder

Go back to Minecraft, select your world (again, I’m choosing “Best World”), and click Edit. Then click Open World Folder.

When the world folder opens, you’ll see a bunch of files and folders. Look for the folder called datapacks and open it. If it’s empty, that’s normal—you just haven’t added any data packs yet.

Step 4: Add the Data Pack to the “datapacks” Folder

Now, go to where your downloads are stored and find the data pack you downloaded (for me, it’s the “Raining Chests” release file). Drag or copy that file into the datapacks folder.

Once it’s inside the folder, you’re done with the file setup.

Step 5: Reload the World

Open your world in Minecraft. At first, it probably won’t look any different, and that’s normal. To activate the data pack, open chat and run:

/reload

This reloads the world’s data packs.

Confirm the Data Pack Is Working

After reloading, you should see the data pack working. In my case, chests start raining down—there are a lot of them, and some even land in the water. If you check the chests, you’ll find random items inside, which confirms the data pack is active.

That’s basically how to install a data pack into your Minecraft world. If you enjoyed this, don’t forget to leave a like and subscribe if you’re new. I make a lot of Minecraft content, and I’m working on making even more. Also, join the Sub Club by hitting the bell and subscribing.

Thanks so much for watching, and I can’t wait to see you in the next video. See ya.
