✔️ How To Get And Use Minecraft Light Block. Step By Step Tutorial ✔️ (Bedrock)
Video Summary
In this video I show you how to obtain and use the Light Block in Minecraft Bedrock Edition (it won’t work on Java). I explain the /give command to get light_block and how its data values control brightness from 0 to 15. Then I demonstrate placing different levels to light builds at night without visible torches, showing how higher numbers create stronger light up to torch-level brightness.

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back to another video. Today I’m going to show you how to obtain and use the Light Block in Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
Before we start, this will not work in Java Edition. The Light Block is currently exclusive to Bedrock. If it ever comes out in Java, I’ll try to make a video on it.
Why Use the Light Block?
As you can see, I’ve set up a wall. In daytime it looks fine because everything is naturally lit. But at nighttime, you might still want the wall to be visible and well-lit—without placing ugly torches all over it.
That’s where the Light Block comes in. It lets you light an area without having any visible light source.
How to Get the Light Block (Bedrock)
To obtain it, use this command:
/give @s light_block
Once you have the Light Block, you can place it. You’ll hear it being placed, but you won’t see anything happen—and that’s completely normal. By default, it’s set to light level 0, meaning it produces no light.
How to Change the Light Level (1–15)
The Light Block has 15 light levels (from 1 to 15). To get a Light Block with a specific brightness, you’ll use the same command, but with a number at the end.
If you want a very faint light (level 1), use:
/give @s light_block 1 1
This gives you one Light Block with a light level of 1. When you place it down, the light is very subtle, but it does make a difference.
If you increase the level to something like 5, it becomes more noticeable:
/give @s light_block 1 5
Now you’ll see more light spread onto nearby blocks, like the wall.
Comparing Brighter Levels (10 and 15)
At level 10, the Light Block becomes significantly brighter (though still a little dimmer than a torch):
/give @s light_block 1 10
And if you want maximum brightness, level 15 is the brightest setting:
/give @s light_block 1 15
Level 15 is roughly equivalent to a torch. It provides strong lighting while staying invisible, which makes it perfect for builds where you don’t want visible light sources.
How It Behaves When Covered
One important thing to note: if you place another block on top of the Light Block (for example, cobblestone), the lighting effect will no longer work in that space, because you’ve replaced the Light Block.
Wrap-Up
That’s basically it for obtaining and using the Light Block in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Thanks so much for watching, and I can’t wait to see you in the next video.
