Video Summary
In this video, I show you how to upgrade to Netherite armor in the new Minecraft 1.20 update using the new smithing table mechanics and smithing templates obtained from bastions. I explain how to duplicate these templates using diamonds and anchorblock, then demonstrate upgrading diamond armor pieces to Netherite by placing them in the smithing table with the appropriate template and Netherite ingots. I also showcase the new armor pattern customization feature that allows you to add decorative patterns to your armor using different smithing templates and ore pieces.

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap and welcome back to another post! Today I’m going to be showing you how to upgrade to Netherite armor in the new 1.20 update. This update is super cool and I’m going to cover a whole bunch of things in it, including an interesting feature Mojang has added — a brand new crafting method to make Netherite armor! As you can see, there is a new item in the game called the Smithing Template. This item can be obtained through Bastions and it is super useful for Netherite armor crafting. If you want to craft Netherite armor, you simply cannot do it without a Smithing Template. The good news is that you can duplicate it! To duplicate your Smithing Template, head to a crafting table, place diamonds around an Obsidian block, and then place the Smithing Template on top — you’ll get two out of this recipe. It is highly recommended to duplicate your Smithing Template before using it, just so you don’t accidentally use your only one on the first go. Once you have a few Smithing Templates and a few pieces of Netherite, head over to your diamond armor and make your way to a Smithing Table. In the 1.20 update, the Smithing Table has been updated with a new way to use it — it now features a new upgrade area. To use it, place your Smithing Template in the left slot. You’ll notice that you can upgrade both your weapons and your armor here. Place your Diamond Chestplate into the designated slot, and then add your Netherite Ingot into the next slot. The table will display a really cool 3D preview of what the upgrade will look like. Click on it and watch the magic happen! You can do this with all of your armor pieces to put together a full Netherite kit. You might even unlock an achievement along the way — and just like that, you are now wearing full Netherite armor in Minecraft! Here is another really cool feature I want to quickly cover — you can now add patterns to your armor, and yes, you heard that correctly! There are a whole bunch of Smithing Templates available for you to discover by simply playing Minecraft, each offering a unique pattern for your armor. To apply a pattern, head back to the Smithing Table and instead of placing the Netherite Upgrade Template, place your chosen pattern template in the slot along with the piece of armor you wish to change and a piece of any ore. The result is a genuinely stunning and unique-looking piece of armor. It honestly looks incredible — kind of like a work of art!
