NEW Official NPC Spawn Eggs In Minecraft! NPC Tutorial Bedrock
Video Summary
In this video, I show how to get the new official NPC spawn egg in Minecraft Bedrock and how to use NPCs for maps. Since NPCs don’t appear in the creative search, I demonstrate using the /give command with spawn_egg and the NPC ID 51 to get the rainbow egg. I walk through customizing an NPC’s skin, name, and dialogue, then show advanced settings where you can add commands in button mode (like repeatedly giving an item). I also warn that NPCs are one-hit and can be deleted easily, so it’s smart to save your text and double-check commands.
Formatted Transcript
Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back to another video. Today I’m going to show you how to get and use the NPC in Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
This is a new entity you might think has always been available, but it has previously been limited to Education Edition (and it isn’t on Java Edition). It’s really cool to see Minecraft starting to bring more Education Edition features into Bedrock, and I hope they add them to Java in the future. For now, this tutorial is for Bedrock, so what I’m doing here won’t work on Java (at least at the time of recording).
How to Get the NPC Spawn Egg
If you search for “NPC” in the creative inventory search bar, nothing shows up. That means we’ll need to use a command to get the spawn egg.
Open chat and enter a /give command to give yourself an NPC spawn egg. The NPC’s ID is 51. After running the command, you should receive a rainbow-looking spawn egg.
Placing an NPC
Once you place the egg, you’ll see an NPC that looks similar to a villager, but with more color. If you spawn multiple NPCs, they’ll all look the same at first—you need to customize them.
Customizing the NPC (Appearance, Name, and Dialogue)
To customize an NPC, walk up to it and tap the Edit button at the bottom. From there, you can choose what you want it to look like. You can also change its name—for example, you could name it Test Subject.
You can also edit what the NPC says. For example, you can set its dialogue to:
Hello
After setting dialogue, if you switch to Survival Mode, you won’t see the Edit button anymore. Instead, it will say Talk. When you tap Talk, the NPC will show the dialogue you wrote (like “Hello”).
One interesting thing I noticed: the dialogue box is a live preview of what the NPC is looking at. If you move around and interact with it, you can see their head position and perspective change in that preview, which is pretty funny.
Advanced Settings: Running Commands from an NPC
For the next NPC, instead of only making it talk, we’re going to use Advanced Settings to add a command. This is a really cool feature because you can assign almost any command you want.
As an example, you can set up a basic /give command to give the player an item. Make sure to switch the NPC to Button Mode so the command can be triggered properly.
Now, when you go back into Survival Mode and tap Talk, you’ll see a button (for example, an Apple button). Press it, and the NPC will run the command—giving you an apple. You can repeat it as many times as you want: talk, press the button, get an apple.
This is great for maps. You can place NPCs around your world and have them give players specific items or trigger certain commands.
Combining Dialogue and Commands
With another NPC, you can combine both features: dialogue and commands. For example, you can write dialogue like:
Hello
And also add a command. Just remember: if you add a command, you need to set it to Button Mode, otherwise the command won’t run.
Important Note: NPCs Are Easy to Destroy
One thing to keep in mind is that NPCs are really easy to get rid of—they’re a one-hit kill. If someone hits them once, they’re gone, and you lose whatever dialogue and commands you set up.
If you’re using NPCs in a build or a map, I recommend copying and pasting your dialogue and commands somewhere else (like notes) so you can easily restore them if an NPC gets deleted. Also, double-check that your commands are correct before relying on them.
