Make Crops Grow Faster With Commands! (Random Tick Speed)
Video Summary
In this video, I show how to make crops and plants grow much faster in Minecraft by increasing the Random Tick Speed. I demonstrate the /gamerule randomTickSpeed command in Java Edition, explain how it speeds up growth, and warn that setting it too high can lag or even crash your game. Then I show the Bedrock method through the settings menu, adjusting Random Tick Speed there and confirming you may still need proper light for crops to grow.

Hey everybody, it’s Under My Cap, and welcome back to another video. Today I’m going to show you how to make crops and plants grow super quickly in Minecraft using commands. I’ll demonstrate this in Java Edition first and then Bedrock Edition, but the method is basically the same.
Why Crop Growth Feels Slow
Normally, to help plants grow you place crops near a water source and make sure there’s enough light. That works, but the process can still feel really slow.
The solution is a simple setting called Random Tick Speed.
What “Random Tick Speed” Does
Random Tick Speed controls how often the game runs random updates in the world. Those updates affect things like crop growth, grass spreading, and other mechanics that rely on random ticks.
Increasing this value makes crops grow much faster. However, be careful: setting it too high can cause lag or even crash Minecraft.
Java Edition: Using the Command
In Java Edition, you can change Random Tick Speed with a gamerule command.
Open chat and type:
/gamerule randomTickSpeed <number>
Make sure the command is typed exactly like this, including the capital T and S in randomTickSpeed.
You can set the number to whatever you want, but don’t go too high. For example, setting it to something like 1000 makes everything update extremely fast. You’ll notice crops growing almost instantly, and even things like grass spreading much more quickly.
Again, be warned: if you set the value too high, the game may become unstable. If you set it too low, nothing will work as expected.
Bedrock Edition: Changing It in Settings (No Command Needed)
Bedrock is a bit different, but it’s actually easier because you can change Random Tick Speed directly in the world settings.
To do this:
Open the pause menu (or press Escape on PC), then go to Settings. If you have cheats enabled, click Game and scroll all the way down until you find Random Tick Speed.
The default value is 1. You can increase it to something like 1000 to speed up crop growth dramatically.
If your crops don’t appear to grow right away, double-check that they have enough light. Once they’re lit properly, you should see the effect immediately.
Final Notes
That’s pretty much it. If you enjoyed this, don’t forget to leave a like and subscribe. Also, I’m sorry about my voice—I’ve been really sick, so it doesn’t sound great.
If you’re new here, don’t forget to subscribe, and I can’t wait to see you in the next video. See you!
