Hey everyone, and welcome back. Today I’m going to show you how to install Fabric.
If you don’t know what Fabric is, it’s a mod loader that allows you to use a wide range of Fabric mods. I use it in a lot of my videos—especially for mods like ReplayMod and Sodium, which can significantly improve performance in Minecraft. I also have another video where I talk about frame rates and why Sodium + Fabric is a great combination; that will be linked in the description if you want to watch it.
If you’re younger, make sure you have a parent or guardian help you through this process—just to ensure you’re downloading the correct files. I’ll also leave the appropriate links in the description so you can follow along safely.
Step 1: Download the Fabric Installer
First, open your web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, or whatever you use) and type:
fabricmc.net
That is the official Fabric website, so make sure the URL is correct.
Once you’re there, don’t click the first “Download” button you see on the page. Instead, go to the Download section at the top.
I’m going to demonstrate this for Windows, but the steps are very similar on Mac. If you use a different launcher, you may see additional options on the site, but I personally just use the standard Minecraft Launcher.
Click Download for Windows. After it downloads, locate the installer file and double-click it to open.
Step 2: Install Fabric for Your Minecraft Version
When the installer opens, you’ll see options to install Fabric for specific Minecraft versions.
Select the Minecraft version you want (for example, 1.19.3). Then click Install (or Create Profile, depending on what the installer shows). If Windows asks for permission, click Yes.
Once it finishes, open the Minecraft Launcher. In your installations list, you should now see a Fabric profile for the version you installed (for example, Fabric 1.19.3).
Step 3: Download Fabric API (Required for Most Mods)
Most Fabric mods require an additional file called Fabric API. You can find it from the same Fabric website (there’s a link there that takes you to the correct page), and it typically leads to CurseForge.
Download the latest version of Fabric API for your Minecraft version. Once downloaded, keep the file ready—you’ll move it into your mods folder next.
Step 4: Find Your Minecraft Mods Folder
Now you need to locate your Minecraft folder. The easiest way is to open your Minecraft directory directly.
On Windows, it’s typically located here:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Replace YOUR_USERNAME with your Windows account name.
Once you’re in the .minecraft folder, you should see a folder called mods. If Fabric was installed correctly, this mods folder should now exist (or be ready to use).
Step 5: Install Fabric API
Open the mods folder and drag the downloaded Fabric API .jar file into it.
That’s it. Once Fabric API is in your mods folder, you can install other Fabric mods the same way by placing their .jar files into this folder.
For example, I personally use mods like Fabric API, Iris Shaders, Lithium, Sodium, and others to help with performance and recording.
Wrapping Up
That’s everything you need to install Fabric and get your mods working. If you enjoyed this guide, don’t forget to leave a like and subscribe, and I’ll see you in the next one.
