How To Make An Interactive Purchase Display In Rec Room

Video Summary
In this video, I show you how I build a simple interactive store pop-up in Rec Room so players can click a mannequin and see (and buy) a featured clothing item. I start by enabling Creative Tools beta content, then place a Mannequin and copy my full-body avatar onto it. Next, I add an Interaction Volume and wire it to Avatar Item and Show Avatar Item Details chips, setting the item you want to showcase. I also mention sizing the interaction volume correctly and optionally adding sound effects for extra polish.

Hey everybody, it’s Under My Cap. Today I’m going to show you how to make an interactive store pop-up in Rec Room so you can display clothing items on virtual characters in your room and let players view the item details.

Here’s what we’re building: a row of mannequins displaying outfits. When a player clicks a mannequin, a store-style pop-up appears for that specific clothing item. The circuits might look a bit complicated at first, but it’s actually very simple once you set it up.

Enable Beta Content in Your Room

Before you start, make sure your room has beta content enabled:

Go to This RoomSettings → scroll down and turn on Allow Creative Tools Beta Content. If it’s already on, you’re ready to go.

Place a Mannequin and Copy Your Avatar

Next, you’ll need a prop called a Mannequin. The mannequin lets you display a character (based on an avatar) inside your room.

Place a mannequin in your room. By default, it will show a basic outfit. To make it display your current character (or the character you want to showcase), open the mannequin’s menu and configure it.

Under Configure, copy your Full Body Avatar Data onto the mannequin. Once you do that, your full body avatar will be cloned to the mannequin.

Important: This requires a Full Body avatar. If you’re using a Bean Body, this method won’t work unless you switch to full body.

Add an Interaction Volume

Now we need to make the mannequin interactive so players can click it.

Open your menu and search for Interaction Volume, then spawn it in.

Scale and position the interaction volume so it covers the part of the mannequin you want players to click—typically around the shirt area. Try to keep it focused on the item area rather than covering too much. Also, make sure it’s slightly larger than the mannequin so it’s easy to select.

Build the Pop-Up Circuit

With the interaction volume in place, it’s time to create the pop-up that shows the item details.

Move your interaction volume circuit area somewhere convenient, then grab the following chips:

Avatar Item
Show Avatar Item Details

Spawn both chips into your circuit area and connect them as follows:

Connect the Interaction Volume output (the player interaction event) into Show Avatar Item Details so it triggers when a player uses it.

Connect the Avatar Item chip into the Show Avatar Item Details chip so it knows which item to display.

Also connect the Player input on Show Avatar Item Details to the player who triggered the interaction (the player who used the interaction volume).

Select the Item You Want to Showcase

Now edit the Avatar Item chip to match the item you want to sell or display.

In my example, the mannequin is wearing the “Under My Cap” blue shirt, so I search for “Under My Cap,” select the correct shirt item, and confirm.

Once that’s set, your mannequin is now interactive. When a player clicks it, the item details pop up automatically.

Optional: Add Sound Effects

If you want extra polish, you can also add a sound effect. Just connect a sound effect chip after the interaction trigger so it plays when the item details pop up.

Test It

Click the mannequin (or the interaction volume area) and you should see the avatar item details appear. If it’s hard to click, slightly increase the interaction volume size and ensure it’s positioned correctly.
