How To Install Fabric Mod Launcher – Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hey everybody, it’s UnderMyCap, and welcome back! Today I’m going to be showing you how to install Fabric. If you’d prefer to follow along visually, you can watch the full video here.

What Is Fabric?

If you don’t know what Fabric is, it is basically a mod loader that allows you to use a whole bunch of Fabric mods. I personally use it in a lot of my videos to use Replay Mod and Sodium to give me better performance in Minecraft. If you’re interested in learning more about performance improvements, I have another video where I talk about frame rates and how Sodium Fabric came out on top — be sure to check the description for that link.

If you are younger, make sure you have a parent to help you go through this just in case you download the wrong thing. I’ll also be leaving the download link in the description to make things easier.

Step 1 – Downloading Fabric

First of all, what you want to do is open up your browser — whether that’s Google Chrome, Firefox, or whichever you prefer — and simply type in fabricmc.net. This is the official Fabric website, so just make sure that is the one you are visiting. Before you do anything, instead of clicking the download button right away, you want to navigate up to the top download section. I’m going to show you how to download it for Windows, and it should be fairly straightforward for Mac in the same way. If you use a different specific launcher, there are other options available on the site, however I personally just use the standard Minecraft launcher.

Step 2 – Installing Fabric

Go ahead and hit download for Windows and you will see the file pop up. Once it has downloaded, double-click on it to open the installer. Once you run it, a small installation window will appear. This is where you choose and install your Minecraft versions. For example, if you want to install Fabric for Minecraft 1.19.3, simply select 1.19.3 from the list — you can also select any other version you need. Note that it only goes down to version 1.14. Once you have selected your version, click Install or Create Profile, then click yes to confirm. After that, open up the Minecraft launcher and Fabric 1.19.3 should be available as a profile ready to go.

Step 3 – Downloading Fabric API

There is one more important step because you will need the Fabric API mod for most mods to work properly. On the same Fabric website, there is a link to the Fabric API on CurseForge — I will also leave this link in the description to make sure you are going to the right place. Simply hit download, let it complete its download process, and the file will be saved to your computer.

Step 4 – Adding Fabric API to Your Mods Folder

Now you need to locate your Minecraft mods folder. The easiest way to do this is to open your file explorer and navigate to AppData > Roaming > .minecraft, or you can simply type the folder path directly into your file explorer. Just make sure to change the username in the path to match your own computer username. Once you’re there, you will see that Fabric has been added to your Minecraft folder along with a mods folder. Simply open the mods folder and drag your downloaded Fabric API file into it. That’s all there is to it! For reference, I personally use Fabric API, Iris Shaders, Lithium, and a few other mods that really help with making my videos.

Wrapping Up

And that’s about it! Installing Fabric is a straightforward process once you know the steps, and it opens up a huge world of mods to enhance your Minecraft experience. If you found this helpful, don’t forget to leave a like and subscribe — I can’t wait to see you in the next one!
